President John Dramani Mahama has secured a significant partnership with Belarus for the delivery of 1,840 units of agricultural machinery, a key achievement from his ongoing official visit to the Eastern European country. The agreement is expected to accelerate Ghana’s agricultural modernization efforts and contribute to increased food production nationwide.

Addressing participants at the first-ever Belarus-Ghana Business Forum in Minsk, President Mahama described the deal as a concrete step toward deepening economic ties between the two countries. He stressed the importance of transforming diplomatic relations into stronger trade and investment partnerships that create real benefits for citizens.

The President noted that the collaboration leverages the strengths of both nations. Belarus brings extensive experience in agricultural mechanisation, manufacturing, fertiliser production, and pharmaceuticals, while Ghana offers a stable political environment, rich natural resources, and access to a vast African market through the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

The acquisition of the equipment aligns with the government’s objective of modernising the agricultural sector, boosting productivity, and reducing reliance on food imports. It is also expected to help farmers adopt more efficient and technology-driven farming methods.

As part of his visit, President Mahama toured several agro-industrial facilities and held discussions with Belarusian authorities on potential cooperation in agriculture, manufacturing, and technology transfer. He has consistently highlighted the role of modern agricultural technologies in strengthening food security and driving economic development.

Observers see the agreement as a major step forward in relations between Ghana and Belarus, with the potential to open doors for additional partnerships in sectors such as healthcare, education, industry, and logistics. The agricultural equipment is expected to play a crucial role in advancing mechanized farming and enhancing Ghana’s overall agricultural output.
