NPP Ashanti Regional Communications Director Appeals to President Mahama to Forgive Chairman Wontumi

The Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has made an emotional appeal to President John Dramani Mahama, urging him to forgive the party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, ahead of a crucial court ruling.

Speaking publicly, the NPP communicator pleaded with the President to show mercy and compassion, saying, “President Mahama, I am on my knees. Please forgive Chairman Wontumi for us. Please don’t let him end up in jail.”

The heartfelt appeal comes as the Accra High Court prepares to deliver its judgment in a case involving Chairman Wontumi on July 3, 2026. The upcoming ruling has generated significant public and political interest, with supporters of the NPP expressing concerns about the possible outcome.

According to the Communications Director, national unity and reconciliation should take precedence over political differences. He appealed to President Mahama to consider the broader implications of the case and demonstrate statesmanship by extending forgiveness.

The comments have sparked debate among political observers, with some viewing the plea as a call for political tolerance, while others insist that the judicial process should be allowed to proceed independently without political influence.

Chairman Wontumi remains one of the most influential figures within the NPP, particularly in the Ashanti Region, where he commands a strong support base. His supporters continue to rally behind him as the date for the court’s decision approaches.

With the High Court’s judgment now just weeks away, all eyes will be on the proceedings on July 3, as Ghanaians await the outcome of a case that has become a major topic in the country’s political landscape.
