Joseph Paul Amoah has announced his ambition to win Olympic gold at the Paris 2028 Games after a landmark career performance at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, where he claimed bronze in the 200 metres with a time of 19.87 seconds.
The 28-year-old Ghanaian, who trains at Colorado Mesa University under coach Dennis Shaver, became only the second Ghanaian man to win a World Athletics medal since Aziz Zakari in 2003. He narrowly missed silver after finishing 0.03 seconds behind American Erriyon Knighton.
"I have been working toward this my whole career. The bronze feels amazing, but I know I have more in me. Paris is the target," Amoah told reporters at a press conference in Accra following a heroes' welcome at Kotoka International Airport.
Ghana Athletics Association President Herbert Mensah praised Amoah's achievement and pledged increased government support for athletics development. Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif announced a GH₵500,000 cash award for the sprinter.
