The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has announced plans to roll out a nationwide ‘Clean the Beach’ campaign aimed at promoting cleaner coastlines, protecting the environment and enhancing the country’s appeal as a leading tourism destination.

The initiative forms part of the Authority’s broader efforts to encourage environmental sustainability while improving the quality of beaches for both domestic and international visitors. The campaign will bring together local communities, tourism operators, environmental groups, volunteers and other stakeholders to participate in regular beach clean-up exercises.

Speaking on the initiative, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Maame Efua Houadjeto, said maintaining clean beaches is essential to preserving Ghana’s natural attractions and strengthening the country’s tourism industry. She urged the public to take responsibility for protecting coastal environments by adopting proper waste disposal practices.

According to the Authority, the campaign will also focus on educating the public about the environmental and economic benefits of keeping beaches free from plastic waste and other pollutants. Officials believe cleaner beaches will improve visitor experiences, support local businesses and contribute to sustainable tourism development.

The launch comes as Ghana continues to promote eco-friendly tourism initiatives and strengthen partnerships aimed at protecting the country’s natural and cultural heritage.
