Ghana has secured the rights to host the 70th Session of the United Nations (UN) Tourism Commission for Africa (CAF) in 2027, marking a major milestone for the country’s tourism, diplomacy and international profile. The announcement was made during the 69th Session of the Commission held in Seychelles.
Presenting Ghana’s successful bid, Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, said the country’s decision to host the event reflects its commitment to promoting tourism as a driver of economic growth, cultural exchange, regional integration and sustainable development across Africa.
She noted that the event will coincide with Ghana’s 70th Independence Anniversary, making the 2027 gathering especially significant as it also marks the 70th session of the UN Tourism Commission for Africa.
The Minister described Ghana as the “Gateway to Africa,” highlighting its rich cultural heritage, vibrant creative arts industry, peaceful democratic environment and world-class hospitality. She said delegates attending the summit will have the opportunity to experience the country’s festivals, historical sites, cuisine, music, dance and diverse tourism attractions.
According to the Ministry, the summit is expected to bring together tourism ministers, policymakers, investors, development partners and industry leaders from across the continent to discuss strategies for strengthening Africa’s tourism sector and promoting sustainable growth.
Government believes hosting the event will further enhance Ghana’s position as a leading destination for heritage, cultural and diaspora tourism while creating new opportunities for investment, job creation and international partnerships in the tourism industry.
