The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has submitted a more than 200-page report detailing the evacuation of Ghanaians from South Africa following xenophobic attacks, responding to a Right to Information request from Parliament.
The report covers the evacuation of 1,964 Ghanaians, which ran from May 27 to September 4, 2026, at a reported total cost of GH¢49.72 million.
According to the documents, GH¢38.84 million was spent on areas including chartered flights, commercial tickets, transportation, feeding, accommodation and medical care, while another GH¢10.8 million went toward reintegration and transportation allowances.
The report was submitted electronically on Friday, September 18, and contains records relating to more than 1,900 evacuees. The release of the documents comes as Parliament continues to examine the financial details surrounding the operation.
The Ministry has also requested a special audit covering government-funded evacuation exercises from 2017 to date, including operations involving COVID-19, Ukraine, Sudan and South Africa.
