Former Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has officially stepped away from his role with Ghana’s national team, following the end of his short-term appointment ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
Queiroz’s exit brings closure to a brief but intense spell in charge of the Black Stars, during which he was tasked with stabilising the team and guiding preparations for major international competition. His tenure focused heavily on discipline, tactical organisation and squad restructuring.
In his reflections after leaving the role, Queiroz stressed that Ghana’s challenges go beyond coaching and player selection. He called for stronger “off-field structures” within the country’s football ecosystem, pointing to the need for improved administration, planning systems, and long-term development frameworks to support national team success.
He suggested that without a more solid institutional foundation, even experienced coaching setups would struggle to deliver consistent results at the highest level. His comments add to ongoing discussions about the state of football management and development pathways in Ghana.
The Ghana Football Association is expected to continue reviewing the Black Stars setup as it prepares for upcoming international commitments, with attention now shifting to longer-term technical direction and structural reforms.
