Lawyer and activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor has asked the High Court in Accra to order the Attorney-General to disclose the whereabouts of his client, Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, following the court’s decision to extradite him to the United States.

Making an oral application before the court, Barker-Vormawor said neither he nor his legal team had been informed of where Abu Trica was being held after he was rearrested following the extradition ruling. He told the court that despite writing to the Attorney-General requesting access to his client, no response had been received.

The High Court temporarily stood down proceedings to allow the Attorney-General’s office to respond before deciding on the application seeking access to the accused.

The development follows the court’s order approving Abu Trica’s extradition to the United States, where he is wanted to face charges in connection with an alleged US$8 million romance scam. After the ruling, security officers reportedly took him back into custody to facilitate the extradition process.

Meanwhile, Barker-Vormawor’s application seeking a stay of execution of the extradition order has been adjourned to July 9, 2026. The defence team has also indicated its intention to challenge the extradition decision at the Supreme Court.
