Minority Demands Attorney General’s Appearance Over Dennis Aboagye’s EOCO Detention
Minority Leader Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin has called on the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, to appear before Parliament to explain the circumstances surrounding the arrest and continued detention of Dennis Aboagye by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
According to the Minority Leader, Parliament deserves a clear explanation regarding the legal basis for the arrest and the reasons behind Mr. Aboagye’s continued detention. He argued that the matter has generated significant public interest and requires transparency to assure Ghanaians that due process is being followed.
Hon. Afenyo-Markin stressed that the Attorney General, as the government’s chief legal adviser, should provide lawmakers with details of the case and clarify whether the actions taken by EOCO are consistent with the country’s laws and constitutional provisions.
The Minority has maintained that Parliament has a constitutional responsibility to hold public institutions accountable and ensure that the rights of individuals are protected throughout legal and investigative processes.
The call comes amid growing political debate over Dennis Aboagye’s detention, with members of the Minority insisting that the government must be open about the circumstances surrounding the case. They believe the Attorney General’s appearance before Parliament would help address concerns and reinforce public confidence in the administration of justice.
As of now, neither the Attorney General nor EOCO has publicly responded to the Minority’s latest demand. Parliament is expected to consider the request as discussions over the matter continue.
