A total of 28 Ghanaian citizens, largely made up of young individuals, have been rescued after reportedly falling prey to a well-organized human trafficking ring in Côte d’Ivoire, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ghana. The victims were successfully brought back to Ghana on May 10 after a coordinated rescue effort involving security agencies and officials from the Ghana Embassy in Abidjan.

In an official statement released in Accra on May 10, the Ministry revealed that the rescued individuals are now cooperating with investigators to help uncover and dismantle the trafficking network, while supporting efforts to prosecute those responsible. The statement confirmed that all victims had returned safely and were assisting with ongoing inquiries.

Additionally, the Government of Ghana expressed appreciation to authorities in Côte d’Ivoire for their strong collaboration and intelligence support during the operation. The Ministry highlighted that the John Dramani Mahama administration remains committed to ensuring that those behind the criminal enterprise are brought to justice.

Meanwhile, citizens have been urged to exercise caution when dealing with overseas job and travel opportunities, especially offers linked to unregistered recruitment agencies. The Ministry advised the public to verify such opportunities through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ghana, the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment Relations, and Ghanaian diplomatic missions abroad, stressing that the safety and wellbeing of Ghanaians remains a top national priority.
