GhanaPostGPS has announced a landmark integration with Google Maps that will make Ghana's digital address system accessible to the billions of Google Maps users worldwide. The partnership means that GhanaPostGPS addresses — unique alphanumeric codes assigned to every 5x5 metre plot of land in Ghana — can now be entered directly into Google Maps for navigation.
The integration is expected to significantly boost the adoption of GhanaPostGPS, which has struggled to achieve widespread use since its launch in 2017 despite the system covering the entire country. Currently, fewer than 20% of Ghanaians actively use their digital addresses.
"This changes everything. You can now send your GhanaPostGPS address to a driver in another country and they can find you with Google Maps," said Ghana Post CEO John Allotey. The system will also be integrated with Bolt, Yango, and Jumia for last-mile delivery.
The World Bank has cited the GhanaPostGPS system as one of the most comprehensive digital addressing systems in sub-Saharan Africa and has recommended it as a model for other African nations.
